Civil servant narrates how ex-lawmaker allegedly abducted her twin grandchildren in Calabar

Mrs Roseline Irek, the Director of Information and Public Orientation with the Cross River State Civil Service has explained how some persons suspected to be armed service personnel on Sunday morning allegedly abducted her twin grandchildren at Satellite Town in Calabar.

The children, who are one-year-old, were allegedly abducted at about 8:47 a.m. by the gunmen allegedly in the company of the twin’s father and former House of Representatives member, Hon Robinson Uwak, who came in five vehicles to carry out the operation.

Irek while narrating the sad incident said, “As we drove out of the gate and about to go to church, two men blocked our vehicles. They came with a Prado jeep and are suspected to have been lodging in a nearby hotel for some days.

“One of the soldiers who were masked asked me to come back home but while this was going on another set of masked soldiers were at home.”

She explained that information available revealed that the team was lodged in a nearby hotel for about three days carrying out surveillance on their (the parents’) movement and the area before they struck.

Confirming what happened, Kezia Robinson Uwak, the daughter of Roseline Irek and mother of the abducted children said the incident happened at about 8:47 on Sunday morning.

She alleged that her husband, Hon. Robinson Uwak, a former House of Representatives member representing Oron Federal Constituency in Akwa Ibom state was behind the abduction.

Narrating her account of the incident, Kezia said, “At about 8:57 am, someone, knocked on our door and my younger sister went to check who was there when the door was violently pushed open.

“Suddenly, we saw a lot of armed masked men in military uniform and Mr Robinson was also with them and wore a face mask.

“We heard him direct the army to take the children and then promised her that he was going to deal with them. He violently flung the children into a waiting Hilux and then they drove away with the children.”

On the steps they have taken so far, Mrs Irek said they have reported the matter at the Airport Police Station, Calabar and to their lawyer, who has been handling the case.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, said the matter is yet to be reported to the State Police Command headquarters as the DPO of Airport Police Station had not also briefed the command at the time of this report.

The matter had earlier been reported at the Airport Police Station.
