The sudden disappearance and passing of Amb. Ejeviome Otobo have prompted a thorough investigation, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
Otobo was reported missing for more than a week before being found dead in New York.
The request for an investigation was made in a statement released on Tuesday by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the commission’s chairman and CEO.
According to her, the death of the 70-year-old diplomat in the U.S. is very sad and painful.
She expressed her sympathy to the late Otobo’s family and friends and prayed to God to give him eternal life and his family the strength to endure their loss.
Dabiri-Erewa added that an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden disappearance of the diplomat and his eventual death in the U.S, has begun.
Between December 2006 and October 2013, Otobo held the positions of Director and Deputy Head of the Peace-building Support Office at the UN’s New York headquarters.
From February to August 2009, Otobo acted as the assistant secretary-general at the UN.
At the Global Governance Institute in Brussels, Belgium, he held the position of non-resident senior fellow in Peacebuilding and Global Economic Policy up until his death.
