Zamfara State government has halted the feeding of boarding students in government schools due to financial constraints.
The development was necessitated by failure of the State government to pay the outstanding debt of the State’s feeding agency.
Th suspension of the programme has now led to truancy among hitherto enthusiastic students as many of them have now abandoned their studies.
A Principal of a Government Day Secondary School, who spoke in confidence, disclosed that the majority of the students were no longer attending schools.
He described the action as a serious setback to the educational development of the State.
“It is unfortunate that the majority of our children are not attending schools again because of the suspension of the feeding programme in schools,” Daily Post quoted him as saying.
