Arsonists kill security guard, set Ondo filling station on fire

A security guard simply identified as Sunday has been killed and Titolu Venture Filling Station set ablaze in Igoba, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The tragic incident happened in the early hours of Monday when the arsonists attacked the filling station tied and shot the security guard dead.

The station manager, Ajisafe Oluwatobiloba, said he got notified about the fire incident around 4am, Daily Trust reports.

Ajisafe said, “At about 4am, I was called by one of the residents, and on getting here, we saw the station burning; we called the fire service and they came to quench the fire, not knowing the perpetrators had killed our security guard.

“While trying to figure out what could have caused the fire, we saw where the guard was tied and killed. We also saw the keg used by the arsonist filled with petrol which part of it must have been used to wet the station before setting it on fire.”

Meanwhile, police detectives visited the scene had since deposited the guard’s corpse in the mortuary.

The state police spokesperson, Mrs Funmi Odunlami, who confirmed the incident said investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances.
