Gunmen have killed a farmer, Alhaji Ibrahim Ayinde, over his family inability to raise money for his release.
According to Daily Trust, Ayinde was kidnapped at the weekend when five gunmen stormed his house in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, beat his wife and whisked him away with his car.
The farmer’s corpse was found in the bush with his intestines protruding from the spot where he was shot by vigilantes and youths.
Although farming in Eruku, the deceased was said to be from Asalapa, Isale Banni in Ilorin West LGA.
The vigilantes have reportedly arrested three suspects and that they have confessed to the killing, while two are still at large.
The suspects, it was further learnt, were disappointed with the Ayinde’s plea that he had no money after they had been “briefed” by one Saabi, their leader, that he (Ayinde) just cashed money from a motorcycle he sold.
The aforementioned publication reported that the state’s vigilante Commander, Alhaji Saka Ibrahim, who confirmed the incident during a telephone chat said, “Yes, the vigilantes in Eruku have handed them over to the police.”
The state police spokesperson, Ajayi Okasanmi, could not be reached to comment on the incident as at the time of filling this report.
