President Muhammadu Buhari is currently holding an emergency meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with service chiefs, the heads of other security services, and some ministers in response to the invasion of the medium-custodial facility in Kuje, Abuja.
The meeting, which is scheduled to review current security system challenges, comes in the wake of recent terrorist attacks, including those on the President’s advance team to Daura on Tuesday night and the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, in Abuja.
Recall that over 900 prisoners, including Boko Haram convicts, managed to escape the Kuje Correctional Centre with the aid of accomplices thought to be members of the Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP).
Among those attending the meeting are, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Boss Mustapha; the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (retd).
Also present are the Ministers of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi; Defense, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd.); and Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao are also in attendance.
The Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman; the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar are also attending the meeting.
Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; is being represented at the meeting.
Buhari just arrived from Senegal on Thursday after attending a summit.
