Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said the ban on hoisting posters and holding political rallies at Eid praying grounds, as well as other Sallah festivities such as the traditional Hawan Daushe at the Emir’s Palace, remains in effect.
Malam Muhammad Garba, Commissioner for Information, conveyed the governor’s message in a statement issued on Friday in Kano.
Governor Ganduje said such acts are not only distractions but also a violation of the Electoral Act.
He said Sallah festivities are not political but solely religious and cultural gatherings aimed at showcasing the rich cultural heritage where people of different political leanings and foreign visitors were in attendance.
Ganduje urged security agencies to take appropriate measures against people breaching the prevailing peace and defying the spirit of festivities.
