At least six people were killed and scores were injured as a result of heavy rain in Jigawa State’s Kafin-Hausa Local Government Area.
The local government council chairman, Muhammad Saminu, revealed this when he visited the families of some of the victims who had been impacted.
According to him, the area’s intense downpour and windstorm caused six people to pass away, sixty others to be hurt, and millions of naira’s worth of property to be destroyed.
According to a local, the rainstorm on Tuesday night left hundreds of families without homes and forced them to seek shelter at community centres and relatives’ homes.
He claimed that some mosques and schools’ and other public buildings’ roofs were destroyed by the intense wind and rain.
Police spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident to newsmen.
He said based on the report obtained from the area, two persons were confirmed dead, while many were injured.
According to him, “the police are yet to ascertain the level of damages but two persons were confirmed dead, many injured, while residential houses, farmlands, government assets and other valuable items were destroyed”.
Those who lost their lives include a 13-year-old girl, Asabe Adamu and a 20 year-old-boy, Amadu Alto all of Abdallawa village, Kafin Hausa in Kafin Hausa Local Government.
The special adviser to the Governor on inclusion, Hamza Muhammad Hadejia also sympathized with the victims, promising that the State government would provide assistance to the victims.
