The National Youth Service Corps has admonished pregnant corps members to obey the rules and regulations of the service.
It also stressed that “pregnancy is not a disease and should not be used as an excuse to be indolent.”
The charge was given by the NYSC Federal Capital Territory Coordinator, Suleman Abdul on Friday during the coordinator’s briefing of the 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 pregnant and nursing mothers held at the multipurpose hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja.
According to a statement posted on the corps social media page, Abdul “encouraged them to carry out personal Community Development Service projects as their present conditions as pregnant women and nursing mothers should not inhibit them from impacting on their host communities. He gave an exposition of what the scheme expects from them and also their obligations during the service year.
“Speaking further, the Coordinator enjoined them to always ensure effective communication with the Management at all times thereby ensuring a hitch-free service year.
“The programme featured NYSC lectures on Community Development Services, Corps Welfare and Health Services, Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Finance and Accounts, Deployment and Relocation.
“This exercise was aimed at ensuring that this special category of corps members are properly informed and adequately prepared to face the challenges of National Service.”
