To acquire defender Jules Kounde from Sevilla, English Premier League powerhouse Chelsea and Sevilla have reached a £55 million agreement.
The Sun reports that Chelsea have now decided to spend £51 million, plus an additional £4 million, to bring Kounde to Stamford Bridge, where he will become manager Thomas Tuchel’s third summer signing.
Recall that Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly came from Manchester City and Napoli, respectively, and were already acquired by Chelsea.
Chelsea had expressed interest in Kounde last year, but he withdrew in the final hours of the summer transfer window when Sevilla increased their demands.
The report added that Kounde has already agreed on personal terms with Chelsea and the Frenchman is due to undergo a medical within the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, Tuchel urged the Chelsea board to strengthen the squad this summer.
“I think we need a couple more players in, to improve the squad,” Tuchel said.
