Rufai Oseni, an anchor of Arise TV, was found guilty by a court of using the BRT lane while driving and was sentenced to pay the appropriate fine.
Oseni had acknowledged driving in the BRT lane on Monday and had rebuked the police for pointing a gun at him while doing so.
He said his vehicle was forcefully taken away from him and wondered why enforcement was not carried out using technology.
He tried to justify his action by saying he saw other motorists plying the BRT lane who were not arrested, which informed his reason for plying the dedicated lane.
Oseni had also engaged in a brawl with the policemen, as a viral video saw the enraged Arise TV anchor accosted the police, saying he would call the governor and called them ‘nonsense.’
Many Nigerians had come hard on him on Twitter for plying the BRT lane and displaying arrogance about his action.
But the police arraigned Oseni in a mobile court on Tuesday for violating the state’s traffic law.
Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said Oseni was in court earlier on Tuesday and was found guilty of breaking the traffic law.
He said he was fined N70,000, which he paid before his vehicle was released to him.
Hundeyin tweeted: “UPDATE: Mr Rufai Oseni was in court earlier today. He was found guilty of contravening Lagos State Transport Law (2018). He was subsequently fined Seventy Thousand Naira Only. He made the payment, after which his vehicle was released to him.”
