Dotun Babayemi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Dotun Babayemi, has alerted that some people are after his life because of his decision to approach the Supreme Court over the victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke at the governorship primary of the party.
Adeleke, the state governor-elect, had been declared winner of the party governorship primary election held at the Osogbo Township Stadium in July.
Babayemi who was not satisfied with the outcome of the primary organised a parallel primary at WOCDIF centre in Osogbo approached the court for redress but he lost out.
A Court of Appeal in Akure had dismissed a suit by the governorship aspirant (Babayemi) and affirmed Adeleke as the authentic candidate of the party for the July 16 governorship election.
Not pleased by the appellate court’s judgement, Babayemi, who has been making moves to approach the Supreme Court, on Wednesday, lamented that politics had been taken to a despicable level in the state as he has been receiving death threats.
In a save-my-soul message issued by his Media Office and made available to journalists, Babayemi, who did not name any person or a particular political party, said he had been inundated with a number of WhatsApp voice notes laced with vituperation and threats.
He said, “Before and after the July 16 governorship election in Osun, I have received a number of voice notes; some laced with vituperation and different insults being hauled at me while some are outright threat to my life. I can’t fathom why some people have chosen this dangerous and uncivilized lane.”
Babayemi admonished that politics should be played without coercion or harassments and warned those behind such unholy acts to desist.
He maintained that he would never be cowed in his resolve at seeking justice at any level of opportunity offered by legal entitlements.
“Those sending threatening voice notes and their sponsors have failed. No matter how, the course of justice can not be circumvented through such crude means. Besides, nobody can intimidate me,” he maintained.
While assuring that he was already doing the needful in intimating relevant security agencies with the development, Babayemi implored his supporters, stakeholders and party members across the state to continue to be law-abiding.
