Six persons have been killed in a head-on collision involving a gas-laden tanker and a Volvo car on the Idi-Iroko-Ota Road, Ogun State.
The accident occurred around 1.20pm on Monday.
The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State, Florence Okpe, who disclosed this in a statement said the incident was caused by wrongful overtaking.
Okpe said, “The crash occurred around 1.20pm and involved two vehicles with their number plates not visible due to the nature of the crash
“The two vehicles are a Volvo 626 and a tanker laden with gas.
“A total of eight persons were involved. Two persons were rescued with injuries and six persons trapped under the crashed vehicle died.
“The suspected cause of the crash was wrongful overtaking which led to head-on collision. The gas was spilling out seriously making the rescue operation difficult.
“The fire service was contacted immediately; the scene of the crash was cordoned off to avert a secondary crash
“FRSC operatives are fully on ground, managing the situation and making effort to remove the trapped bodies.”
