Three teenagers, Adaeze Eze, Ofoka Edozie and Ezenwa Ozoemena, have been remanded in prison over the death of a commercial motorcyclist, Ikegbunam Ebuka in Anambra State.
The suspects were on Tuesday arraigned before an Otuocha Chief Magistrate’s Court in the Anambra East Local Government Area on two counts of conspiracy and murder.
The police alleged that the accused and others still at large on May 24, 2022, killed Ikegbunam along Otuocha/Anyamelum Road, Anaku.
The prosecution claimed that two of the defendants asked the motorcycle rider to take them to a destination and midway into their journey, they told him to take them to a particular place for a brief discussion.
After the brief discussion, the defendants reportedly continued with their journey and on getting to Anaku, they joined some persons as the rider was not seen until after two days when his corpse was recovered in the community.
The elder brother of the deceased told the court that his sibling was drugged and killed.
The Chief Magistrate, M.I. Ogolo, ordered that the defendants be remanded in the Onitsha Custodial Centre till Tuesday, September 16, 2022, for trial.
In another development, an ex-convict, Chimuanya Ifeafuluekwo, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for house breaking, stealing and assaulting his aunt, a widow.
Chief Magistrate Ogolo, who pronounced the jail term shortly after the accused pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for leniency, said he deserved some punishment to serve as a deterrent to others.
