No fewer than 30 university students have been trained on Infographics and Visualization for Multimedia Reporting by GreenReach Global Consult, a firm that focuses on media research and training for media practitioners.

The training, which took place on Saturday at BlueLodge hotel, Ikeja, had in attendance campus journalists from different tertiary institutions in Lagos State who were introduced to multimedia reporting and its components.

The facilitator, Bamas Victoria –an editor at the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) – spoke on the importance of interactive storytelling and several tools that aids effective multimedia reporting.

She noted that “multimedia reporting is important to keep your audience engaged through different media platforms and to make information easier to understand”

Victoria stressed that campus journalists need not only know how to write reports but equally make use of multimedia tools, to make them valuable in the newsroom.

Several participants who spoke to Within Nigeria commended GreenReach media consult for the training.

A student of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Oyeleye Tolulope tagged the training as a life changer.

“The training was phenomenal. I have never experienced training like this even in the classroom. It was an in-depth training where I know my life has changed because I attended. Greenreach Global consulting services have refined my future,” she said.

Busola Alamu, from Lagos State University (LASU), said the training was enlightening and exposed her to ways she can include visuals in her report

“The training was very enlightening, I had a better understanding of things I was already familiar with, in the sense that I see visuals all around but then I might not get the main essence of it. But now, I know how to create visuals to aid my writing and communicate to people which will be easier for them.” She said

Another student from LASU, Fareedat Taofeeq, said the training exceeded her expectations.

“The training was fully packed and indeed it exceeded my expectations. It was quite fascinating to realize that I could use my graphic designing skills towards the art of journalism and with the knowledge gathered from this training I would love to explore those areas in journalism.” She said

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer, GreenReach Global Consult, Olayiwola Olakanmi, noted that the training was organized to equip participants with practical knowledge in the area of communication and media.

He posited that it provided a platform for media students to connect with professionals and gain profitable skills.

“The training was done to equip the participants with practical knowledge, giving back to society through training in the area of communications and media, providing the platforms to connect upcoming media students with professionals for mentorship, and redirecting the focus and attention of young people to beneficial and profitable skills and endeavors,” Olakanmi said
