Erik ten Hag secured his first win as Manchester United manager with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils started the brighter of the two sides and opened the scoring within the first 15 minutes as Jadon Sancho calmly swept the ball home.
Liverpool grew into the game and almost equalised just before the break but Lisandro Martinez cleared the ball off the line following James Milner’s header.
But it was United who doubled their advantage through Marcus Rashford, who showed great composure to slot past Alisson after being played through on goal by Anthony Martial.
With that goal, Rashford ended a run of 997 minutes without a goal in all competitions for Manchester United, since netting vs West Ham in January earlier this year.
Mohamed Salah pulled one back for Jurgen Klopp’s side but it was too little too late as the Reds suffered their first defeat of the season.
