Eight farmers have been abducted by bandits in Mawogi community in Gawu ward of Abaji Area Council of Abuja, in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Daily Trust, a resident of the community, Aliyu Usman, said the incident happened on Saturday at about 11:30pm when the bandits in their large numbers carrying weapons invaded the community.
Usman said the bandits attacked four houses and whisked away the inhabitants into the bush shooting sporadically.
“The bandits came and started shooting sporadically into the air, before they entered four houses and abducted eight farmers who they herded into the bush,” he said.
He said contact was yet to be established with the bandits.
It was gathered that bandits last week also invaded Gasakpa, a neighbouring community in the area, and abducted four residents, but the victims were later rescued by vigilante members.
Some rural communities in Abaji Area Council of the FCT, which shares boundary with neighbouring villages in Niger State, had in the last few months faced a series of attacks by suspected bandits.
The FCT police spokeswoman, DSP Adeh Josephine, could not be reached to comment on the latest kidnap incident as of press time.
