Liverpool have completed a season-long loan deal for Juventus’ Arthur Melo as the Premier League side secured a deadline day move for the midfielder.
The deal is subject to international clearance which isn’t expected to be a problem for the latest Anfield addition.
Arthur joins for the duration of the season before heading back to Turin with no buy option included in the deal for the 26-year-old.
The Brazilian becomes Liverpool’s fourth summer signings after the arrivals of Darwin Nunez, Fábio Carvalho, and Calvin Ramsay earlier in the transfer window.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was keen to bring in further midfield reinforcements after seeing his team ruptured by injuries to key engine-room personnel in Jordan Henderson, Thiago, and Naby Keita.
Liverpool’s move for the midfielder progressed quickly after the club registered their interest, with Arthur flying to Merseyside Thursday morning to complete his medical.
Arthur could be involved in Saturday’s Merseyside derby with Klopp short on midfielders as Everton welcome their cross-city rivals to Goodison Park.
The midfielder previously of Barcelona joined Juventus for £70million in 2020 as part of a move that saw Miralem Pjanic moving in the other direction for £60million.
But Arthur has struggled to fit in under boss Max Allegri with him on the fringes at Juventus and seeking a way out of the club with offers from Wolves, Sporting Lisbon and Valencia in the past month.
Arthur announced his Juventus departure in a video posted to his Twitter account that showed his best moments at the Italian club where he lifted numerous trophies.
The dynamic midfield player arrives at Liverpool boasting an impressive trophy cabinet having lifted the La Liga title at Barcelona, along with the Serie A title and Italian Supercup during his time in Turin.
