Russia warns of consequences as EU suspends visa

Russia's President Vladimir Putin

In response to the EU’s decision to suspend visas for its citizens, Russia has threatened the EU with dire consequences.

As the war in Ukraine rages on, the European Union (EU) announced on Wednesday that it would suspend visa requirements for Russian nationals in order to reduce border crossings from Russia into the EU.

Russia will choose its course of action for retaliation, according to the official news agency, RIA Novosti.

Alexander Grushko, the deputy foreign minister for Russia, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the country has not yet decided what course of action it will take.

“Violation, circumvention or withdrawal by the EU from the visa facilitation agreement with Russia would not be left without consequences.

“We’ll decide for ourselves whether the measures will be symmetrical, asymmetric or something that the EU does not expect.

“If Brussels decides to shoot itself in the foot again, then it is their choice,” he said.
