The eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, has been enthroned as king after her mother’s demise.
Queen Elizabeth died on Thursday afternoon after battling an undisclosed illness, she was 96.
The house of English monarch, Buckingham Palace, announced her death on Thursday.
She was the longest-serving monarch in British history.
Charles, 73, will succeed her as king immediately, according to centuries of protocol, beginning a new, less certain chapter for the royal family after the queen’s record-breaking 70-year reign.
The king or queen is the head of government in Britain’s Parliamentary system of government, his or her position is, however, largely ceremonial as he or she is not involved in the day-to-day running of the country’s affairs.
