The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has passed a vote of confidence on the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, expressing support for his leadership amidst the call for his resignation by the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.
Recall that Governor Wike has been demanding the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, on grounds that both chairman and the party presidential candidate cannot be from northern Nigeria.
In a communique issued at the end of the 97th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which was held today at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, the National Executive Council restated its confidence in Ayu’s leadership for effectively managing the affairs of the party and preparations targeted towards clinching power in the 2023 general elections.
The NEC also disclosed that the chairman of the Board of Trustees, Walid Jubrin, who resigned earlier today will be replaced by the secretary, Adolphus Wabar.
The NEC alleged President Buhari of appointing All Progressive Congress (APC) members as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commission (REC).
“ This unpatriotic act is a brazen plot by the APC to manipulate and rig the 2023 general elections against the will of Nigerians. The PDP demands that President Buhari immediately withdraw the APC members nominated as RECs, failure of which has the capacity to trigger serious political cruises that can threaten the 2023 general elections and derail our democratic process” it said.
It further called on the support of the party members in rescuing the Nation from the APC leadership in what they described as a “nightmarish misrule”
