Gunmen have attacked the management and staff of WorldView Magazine, on Wednesday.
The suspected robbers invaded the organization’s office, which is located in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State and carted away sensitive documents.
A foul play is being suspected because apart from some sensitive documents of the media house that are presently nowhere to be found, other valuables said to have been taken away include a television set, ORL standing fan, 1 HP Laptop, 1 Samsung Laptop, LED Lantern, Extension wires, bank documents, receipts, among others.
Wondering why the hoodlums left behind items which he believed would have fetched them hundreds of thousands of naira, but gave priority to sensitive materials of the organization, the Director, Administration and Strategy of the Media House, Ufeh Tor Biliji Tor, believed there was more than what the hoodlums came for.
According to him “There were personal belongings worth over two hundred thousand naira belonging to the Editor in Chief but they did not pick any of them.”
Rather than disappearing with such valuables, the criminals, according to him, “opened his drawer and carted away sensitive documents of the organization, including receipts and bank documents.”
“We are surprised by this development because If they were really looking for things with which to make money, there are business shops with valuables worth over billions within the premises, but because it was not money they were after, they did not give attention to any of those areas,” he said.
He said the ugly development could be the handiwork of some desperate elements who do not wish the organization well.
He, however, said it would not in any form deter the organization from engaging in developmental and investigative journalism.
