Calvin Bassey acknowledged that it was strange to play against Rangers on Wednesday night in the UEFA Champions League.
This summer, Bassey cut ties with Rangers and joined Eredivisie champions Ajax.
At the Johan Cryuff Stadium in Amsterdam, Ajax thrashed Rangers 4-0, and the defender was in outstanding form.
In addition, the 22-year-old picked up an assist during play.
“I’m buzzing, but it’s a weird feeling,” Bassey told UEFA’s official website.
“When I’m not playing against the boys I’m rooting for them and wanting them to win, but on the pitch you have to switch that focus and I’m pleased to get the win.”
Bassey also reflected on the win and praised his teammates for their efficiency in front of goal.
“It wasn’t easy for us; we just executed at the right times. There’s still work that can be done for us to get better and we’re pleased with the performance,” he added.
Ajax have now kept a clean sheet in each of their last four matches across all competitions.
