Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s horrific attack has been the subject of a call for a thorough investigation from the Young Peoples Party (YPP).
The lawmaker representing Anambra South in the National Assembly is a top chieftain of the party.
Around 5 o’clock on Sunday evening, Ubah’s convoy was ambushed as it was travelling to Nnewi near Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu Market.
Close aides Goodness Mathias and Obum Ikechukwu and some security personnel died at the scene.
The business tycoon is in good condition after escaping the attempted murder, according to a YPP statement.
The party commiserated with the families of the deceased aides and security operatives.
YPP urged President Muhammadu Buhari, Inspector General of Police Usman Baba, and Anambra Police Command to ensure justice.
The reaction announced that party flags nationwide would be flown at half-mast in honour of the people killed.
Social justice advocate Chima Christian condemned the attack in a statement on Monday.
Christain noted that non-state actors have again demonstrated the capacity to impose their will on Anambra.
“This is despite the appreciable progress the new state government has so far made.
“Not that anyone deserves to be attacked, but Senator Ubah is the least deserving of this act of wickedness”, he said.
The public commentator consoled Ubah and extended his condolences to the families of the victims.
