Joseph Albasu Kunini, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly has called on the former governor of the State, Rev Jolly Nyame, to forgive all those who masterminded his incarceration.
The call was made by the Speaker at the weekend during a grand reception in Jalingo, in honour of Nyame following his freedom, after a presidential pardon recently.
He said, “since the presidential pardon and your freedom, Tarabans from all walks of life have waited anxiously to welcome you back home; therefore, today is a historic day and your home-coming is an epoch-making occasion in the history of the State.
“Your Excellency, it is appropriate to describe you as an iconic figure in Taraba State which you had a rare privilege to govern.
“Indeed, serving jail term is hard on a person’s family, but it is even harder and painful for the person jailed; in fact, there is nothing harder to deal with than incarceration and loss of freedom”.
He said as a Christian and a clergy for that matter, Nyame should “let go of the past and forgive all those, who in one way or the other, were responsible for his incarceration.
Responding, Nyame who was visibly overwhelmed, paid glowing tribute to President Mohammadu Buhari, who made his freedom possible.
He said, “I want to start by appreciating God Almighty and Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari; I want to also appreciate the Council of State that made it possible for me to regain my freedom.”
