Mother of 4 drowns over N30,000 debt in Kwara

A 38-year-old woman has drowned herself in Awodi River in Sobi area of Ilorin East Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State over N30,000 debt .

The mother of four was allegedly frustrated with her inability to pay a balance of N30,000 from a N50,000 loan she collected to boost her business.

Her creditors in the contribution group where she got the loan were said to have started harassing and embarrassing her over the balance before she took the fatal decision of jumping into the river.

According to Daily Trust, the spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, said that her corpse was recovered from the river in the presence of her husband.

Hassan explained that, “It was a case of frustration. It was learnt she had issues with the repayment of a N30,000 balance from a debt following incessant harassment.”
