The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu, says Christians in Nigeria can no longer afford to be indifferent about politics.
Ayu called on Christians to show greater interest in politics.
According to NAN, Ayu made the call when he spoke at northern Christian youth assembly summit, with the theme ‘Unifying Nigeria: The Role of Northern Christian Youths and Women’ on Tuesday.
Ayu admonition to Christians comes amid growing dissatisfaction with the All Progressives Congress over its decision to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket for its presidential candidate.
Speaking further, Ayu said Christians need to be intentional and practical about governance and politics because God will only help those who help themselves.
He, however, expressed delight that things are changing and Christians are now seeing the need in getting involved in politics and governance.
“I do not think God will just come down and answer your prayer. You need to act too. That way, God will help us,” he said.
“For a long time, many people saw politics as something to be left to others, but I am happy that today, this narrative has changed. Events have made it possible to see that the control of political power is very important.
“Therefore, it is important that Christians have to rise up, come together, and show greater interest in politics.”
