The governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has expressed sorrow over the tragic news of boat accidents in the Tarmuwa Local Government Area’s Jumbam community.
Two boats carrying passengers to the weekly market in Babbangida capsized on Saturday, with only two bodies recovered so far.
Gov. Buni, who expressed his feelings in a statement through his spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, directed an intensive search mission on Saturday in the hope of rescuing the remaining victims or their bodies.
The governor described the accident as sad, unfortunate, and devastating, and prayed for the safe rescue of the victims while advising travellers on the roads, streams, and rivers as well as, residents along water banks to always be cautious.
“The heavy rains and floods usually come from far and unannounced, we should always be on the watch out and avoid dangerous ways,” he warned.
Buni prayed Allah (SWT) to protect the people, their properties, livestock, and farmlands.
It was gathered that Yobe State Government, in collaboration with security agencies and relevant stakeholders, is working to provide improvised alternative safe routes for the affected communities to have safe travel and access to adjoining villages; communities trapped will be provided with essential life-saving support accordingly.
Recall that heavy floods have recently washed away several roads, settlements, farmlands, and livestock across the state.
