Nottingham Forest, a Premier League club, has denied reports that Emmanuel Dennis declined an invitation to represent Nigeria in friendlies against Algeria.
Head coach Jose Peseiro invited Dennis to fill in for the injured Adana Demirspor winger Henry Onyekuru.
However, the former Club Brugge player opted out of the game after suffering an injury in Nottingham Forest’s 3-2 loss to Fulham the previous weekend.
Dennis was accused of rejecting the invitation after Peseiro originally overlooked him.
But Nottingham Forest have now debunked the allegation and stated the versatile striker is truly injured.
“Taiwo Awoniyi has both been called up to the Nigeria squad for their friendly against Algeria. Emmanuel Dennis, meanwhile, has withdrawn due to injury,” reads a statement on the club’s official website.
The 24-year-old has made seven appearances for the Super Eagles with a goal to his name.
