Habidu Yazid-Rafindadi, chairman and pro-chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has died in Abuja.
Kunle Akogun, the university’s director of corporate affairs, confirmed the news to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday.
Akogun said the university had yet to give an official statement on the incident.
Yazid-Rafindadi’s death comes barely two weeks after announcing the new vice-chancellor of UNILORIN, Prof. Wahab Egbewole.
Yazid-Rafindadi stated that Egbewole was appointed vice-chancellor after the university governing council conducted a thorough screening of 13 professors.
The deceased, who hailed from Katsina State, was a former secretary to the government and head of service in the old Kaduna State.
Yazid-Rafindadi replaced the chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, as board chairman of Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD) before his appointment as the governing board chairman and pro-chancellor of UNILORIN last year.
