Security guards at Abuja Timber Market in Deidei have killed a machine operator for allegedly snatching the phones of two women in the area.
It was gathered that the guards confronted two people after an alarm was raised by the girls but later discovered they were machine operators in the market.
According to Daily Trust, a source said, “One of the suspects lost his life in the hands of the security guards, while the other sustained injuries.
“It’s still not clear whether the suspects scaled the fence of the market to steal, or just passed through the market to access where they used to sleep at night.”
The source further said the police from the Gwagwa division the following morning, picked him away.
Members of the Igala community, who control a large number of timber machine operators as well as other services protested over the action against the two suspects.
The FCT police spokeswoman, DSP Josephine Adeh, was yet to comment on the incident, as of the time of filling this report.
