The police in Adamawa state said they have arrested 44 suspected criminals and recovered sophisticated weapons in and around the state.
Among those apprehended is a cobbler whose identity was not disclosed. He was alleged to be going about posing as a shoe mender but had a hidden pistol in his box.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr S. Akande, while parading the shoe shiner among other suspects, alleged that the suspect operates in the daytime as a shoe repairer and in the night as an armed robber.
He said the command recovered five AK-47 rifles, two rounds of live ammunition, laptop, computer accessories, pistols, locally made single barrel, two jerricans of dozzy engine oil.
Others include cartons of hydraulic oil, handsets, generator, television/electronic, cutlass, knife and other dangerous weapons, uniform and Keke Nape wheel screen.
The suspects were apprehended in connection with kidnapping activities, culpable homicide, rape, causing grievous bodily hurt, house breaking, theft and other violent crimes in the state.
