Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has insisted that Nigeria must remain one indivisible country if it must attain its full potential.
Abiodun spoke on Saturday while delivering his speech at the celebration of Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Day Anniversary, held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
According to him, Nigerians must not allow the same factors that gave birth to Nigeria “be the same factors that will be impediments to its development.”
While identifying the fact that Nigeria is passing through difficult times, Abiodun urged the citizens to remain resolute and strong even in the face of challenges.
He cautioned Nigerians calling for secession to learn from nations that have been divided by these factors, stressing that “in unity lies our strength.”
Abiodun called on the nation’s political leaders to emulate the founding fathers of Nigeria, who he said did not allow their differences to deter them from laying a solid foundation for the growth of Nigeria.
“We should come together to harness the natural gifts bestowed on us for the development of our nation and increased prosperity of our people.
“Therefore, I urge us all to learn from nations that have been divided by these factors. In unity lies our strength.
“So, we are better together. Our interests are better served than going our different ways,” Abiodun said.
