The Court of Appeal has ordered members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to end their eight-month-long strike immediately.
The court, however, granted the application on the condition that the union follow the lower court’s ruling and immediately call off the strike, pending the outcome of the substantive suit.
Following the lower court’s ruling, the court gave ASUU seven days to file an appeal.
WITHIN NIGERIA reports that the National Industrial Court, on Sept. 21, ordered ASUU to call off the strike.
The court gave the order following a notice filed by the Federal Government urging the lecturers to return to classrooms.
In his decision on the interlocutory injunction, the trial judge, Justice Polycarp Hamman, restrained ASUU from continuing with the strike until the Federal Government’s suit against ASUU was resolved.
Miffed by the ruling, the union headed to the appellant court to appeal the ruling.
