Court sends butcher to prison for stealing, selling dog to Abuja restaurant

One Auwal Musa has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for stealing a foreign breed dog and selling it for N15,000 to a restaurant in Abuja.

The 19-year-old Musa was convicted and sentenced by a Niger State magistrates’ court sitting at Madalla in Suleja LGA, on Tuesday.

The prosecutor, ASP John Ateni, earlier told the court that the accused and another man identified as Usama, now at large, confronted one Hassan Dauda, who was taking a dog out for morning exercise on October 8, in Kwankashe area of Suleja and snatched the dog.

Ateni said, “They threatened the owner of the dog with a knife and demanded him to hand over the dog to them.

“Musa thereafter took the dog, valued at N250,000, to a restaurant owned by one Iyke Nnaji in Gwagwa in the FCT and sold it to him at N15,000.

The prosecutor said the suspect confessed to the crime during investigation.

The Magistrate, Joy Asabe Shaba, sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option to pay N40,000 fine on the first charge and N30,000 on the second charge.

City & Crime reports that the court also sentenced the dog’s buyer to five months imprisonment with an option of N50,000.
