CJN Ariwoola to perform first official function today

On Friday, October 14, Justice Olukayode Lateef Ariwoola, the recently appointed substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), will carry out his first official act at the Supreme Court Complex.

Justice Ariwoola was sworn in as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria on Wednesday, October 12, after President Muhammadu Buhari administered the oath of office to him.

According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s Director of Information and Press, Dr Festus Akande, Justice Ariwoola’s first assignment in office will be to install the Acting President of the Customary Court of Appeal of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Justice Stanley Adekunle Lawal.

The statement said Justice Lawal would be sworn in at the Main Courtroom of the Supreme Court at 11 am.

President Buhari had, on October 12, 2022, sworn-in Justice Ariwoola as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa.

Justice Ariwoola was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) on June 27 this year, following the resignation of his immediate predecessor, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, on health grounds.
