On Tuesday, police in Plateau killed a suspect in a gunfight at Du community in Jos South Local Government Area and recovered one AK-47 rifle and live ammunition.
DSP Alfred Alabo, a Jos police spokesman, stated in Jos on Thursday that a patrol team spotted some gunmen who illegally barricaded the road in Du on Tuesday.
He went on to say that instead of surrendering, the gunmen opened fire on the police officers.
“Upon sighting police operatives, the gunmen engaged them in a fierce gun battle, but they were subdued.” One was shot dead while the others fled with gunshot injuries.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects were one AK47 rifle with breach number AE 353550 and eight rounds of 7.62 39mm live ammunition.”
“Efforts are in top gear to apprehend fleeing members of the gang as the investigation is still in progress,’’ he stated.
Alabo added that the Commissioner of Police in Plateau, Mr. Bartholomew Onyeka, called on residents to report any suspicious movements within the state to the police.
