Three persons, including two roadside traders and a tricycle passenger, were crushed to death by a trailer along Zaria Road in Jos, Plateau State.
It was gathered that the accident happened on Thursday and the articulated vehicle also destroyed some shops after it crashed on them.
According to PUNCH, eyewitnesses said the incident happened after the trailer, which was parked on one side of the highway, climbed a wedge put under it by the driver and started rolling.
A resident, who gave his name only as Maxwell, said, “There was nobody inside the trailer parked by the roadside. So, immediately the motor boy saw the trailer rolling down the road without the driver inside, he tried to put another wedge but the trailer did not stop.
“Then, he jumped inside the vehicle and tried to control it. By this time, the people who noticed what was happening started shouting and calling on people in the direction of the trailer to clear from the road.
“Unfortunately, the trailer crashed into some shops along the road, killing two persons selling by the roadside. The third person that was killed was a tricycle passenger who tried to escape from the tricycle but was not fast enough like other passengers.”
The state Public Enlightenment Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Peter Longsan, also confirmed the death of the crash victims, describing the incident as unfortunate.
