Man Utd’s Greenwood denied bail

Mason Greenwood has been remanded in custody after appearing at Manchester Magistrates’ Court charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

Greenwood has been ordered to appear in front of Manchester Crown Court, on November 21.

Greenwood looked at his family in the public gallery before being taken down by two dock officers on Monday.

The three charges relate to the same woman.

Greenwood, 21, was detained in January and had been on bail until Saturday, when he allegedly breached his bail conditions and prosecutors decided to charge him.

He confirmed his name, date of birth and address at Monday’s hearing.

The attempted rape is said to have happened in October 2021, the assault in December 2021, and the controlling and coercive behaviour between November 2018 and October this year.

Manchester United suspended Greenwood when the allegations surfaced and he has not played or trained with the club since.

He has scored 35 times for the club and made 129 appearances.

Greenwood was also removed from the popular FIFA 22 video game and Nike terminated his sponsorship deal.
