The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has warned constables-in-training at its 16 police colleges and training schools not to use social media inappropriately.
The security agency advised them to learn and apply public relations principles to improve service delivery and efficiency while on the job.
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, delivered a lecture at Lagos’ Police College Ikeja.
He reaffirmed the importance of implementing public relations strategies to strengthen the force’s policing strategies in order to combat crime, criminality, and other forms of social vices in Nigeria.
The PRO, who lectured over 700 recruits on the directive of the Inspector-General Usman Baba, told them not to violate the NPF Social Media Policy.
The provisions, which guide officers and men on the use and regulation of social media platforms, stipulate punishment for defaulters.
“The policy prohibits inappropriate use of social media platforms to promote indiscipline, unethical acts, and unapproved activities of police personnel, either in an official or personal capacity,” Adejobi said.
The training will be replicated in all police colleges and training schools in order to properly educate the recruits on the doctrines, ethics, and values of policing.
Adejobi charged them to be of good character and worthy ambassadors as they prepare for their passing out and induction.
The spokesperson added that the training they had received would increase their capacity and preparedness for effective security management before, during, and after the 2023 elections.
