The Labour Party’s nominee for president, Peter Obi, has responded to the claim that, while serving as the state’s governor, he oversaw the executions at the notorious Awkuzu SARS facility in Anambra State.
Recall that certain detractors, particularly the opposition, had accused Obi of being responsible for the severe atrocities carried out by the now-disbanded police unit in the state of Anambra.
Obi, however, denied any involvement in the operations of the disbanded police unit when taking questions on the Arise Tv Morning Show on Monday morning.
He said that as a governor of Anambra State, he never had control over the affairs of Awkuzu SARS.
“The Awkuzu SARS was there before I became a Governor. It was a police formation that used to be controlled by the Federal Government. It was like when someone said that I ordered people to arrest him, I was not the police; I was the Governor”, he said.
