Mararaba Upper Area Court

A Borno State High Court has convicted Aisha Alkali-Wakil, also known as Mama Boko Haram, of conspiracy and fraud totalling over 34 million Naira.

The state zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is said to have arraigned Mama Boko Haram, one Tahiru Saidu-Daura, and Lawal Shoyode before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the High Court in Maiduguri (EFCC).

The anti-graft agency had charged the defendants with three counts of conspiracy and cheating worth N34,593,000.

In her decision today, Justice Kumaliya found the defendants guilty on all three counts and sentenced them accordingly.

In her ruling on count one for the offence of conspiracy, the judge “sentenced Aisha Alkali-Wakil, Tahiru Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyode to five years imprisonment each without an option of fine.

“While on counts two and three of the charge, Aisha Alkali-Wakil and Tahiru Saidu Daura are to go to prison for seven years each without an option of fine.”

It was also stated that the court ordered Wakil to pay N25, 805,000 or face seven years in prison, while Daura was ordered to pay N8, 788,000 or face seven years in prison.

The court also ordered Wakil and Daura to pay a total of N 7,184,250 for the items supplied to their office or face three years in prison.

According to reports made available to journalists late Monday, some Boko Haram kingpins and terrorist commanders were recently apprehended in Abuja and Kano.

According to sources who confirmed the development to Daily Trust yesterday, some Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) commanders and foot soldiers have disguised themselves in communities in and around Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, perfecting their plans to launch dreadful attacks around the same time.

WITHIN NIGERIA has learned that the update was issued just hours after the US Embassy in Nigeria warned about planned attacks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other parts of the country.

However, sources who requested anonymity said that before Sunday’s advisory by the US Embassy in the country, security forces had been on high alert to ensure no attack occurred in Abuja and its environs.

According to security sources, many terrorists and their collaborators who were planning and strategizing how to launch multiple attacks to attract global attention had been apprehended in the nation’s capital city and neighbouring communities during various raids.

According to Daily Trust, the advisory issued on Sunday was issued to back up the obvious fact that feared terrorists and collaborators have established several cells in and around FCT.

According to the report, most embassies in Nigeria were fully informed of the security threat, and the US Embassy’s alarm could simply be one of such advisories, as others must have quietly warned their citizens to be on the lookout.
