Zamfara lifts ban on political rallies, suspends LGA lockdown

Dr. Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence

Government of Zamfara has lifted the ban on political activities and suspended the lockdown imposed on LGAs in the state.

Recall that the government ordered the total closure of schools and markets across nine towns in Anka, Gummi and Bukkuyum LGAs.

The government had also banned all political activities in the three LGAs owing to insecurity in the areas.

According to a statement on Monday, Ibrahim Dosara, commissioner for information in the state, said the suspension followed the “satisfactory reports” on the current security situation in the areas.

“The Zamfara state government has approved the immediate reopening of Gummi, Anka and Bukkuyum local governments, as well as all the towns, roads and markets recently closed by the government due to heightened insecurity in some parts of the state,” the statement reads.

“The approval followed the satisfactory reports received on security situation in the affected communities.

“In view of the above, government has lifted the embargo it enforced on political activities in the state.”

Dosara urged residents of the state to abide by the rule and law, adding that the government will not tolerate any behaviour that negatively affects peace and security.

According to the statement, Bello Matawalle, governor of Zamfara, also assured residents of his commitment to protecting lives and properties, adding that he will not “compromise his constitutional responsibilities to the people of the state”.
