There are growing concerns and fear of unknown outcome in Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North as members of Indeginous People of Biafra, IPOB are currently going school to school enforcing the authorities to hoist Biafran flag.
An eye witness Zion Ebuka told our reporter that the illegal enforcement started on Thursday last week.
Narrating the development, Mr. Ebuka explained that “whether it’s the real IPOB or a group masquerading as IPOB that are carrying out some activities at Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North local government, Enugu state remains unclear to me and many other distant safe observers.”
“At Enugu-Ezike, their Sit-at-home is almost every day. Even when there’s no reason for sit-at-home, they observe it. If you constantly keep in touch with people from or in that part of Enugu state, you would discover that sometimes in a week, they have up to 3 sit-at-home days in a week. Meanwhile, other parts of Nsukka don’t know anything of such. Snatching of motorcycles and open-day robbery is almost a daily occurrence at Enugu-Ezike. All these happen not withstanding the presence of the Nigeria Army at Enugu-Ezike who are there to forestall peace and most importantly, enforce total compliance to the curfew declared by the state governor. In this case, intimidation and harassment of civilians by the army have been recorded significantly.”
Narrating the incident, he explained that “on Thursday this week, 27 October, three IPOB guys paid a visit to one secondary school at Enugu-Ezike, Model Comprehensive Secondary School, Ekposhi, Enugu-Ezike in the afternoon and gave the school the Biafra flag to hoist at the school. Two of the three guys went into the school while one stayed outside the gate and waited or kept guard. The school authorities was instructed to hoist the Biafra flag at the school.
“The following day being Friday in the morning, these IPOB guys went to the school to see if the school authorities actually raised the Biafra flag at the school as they commanded. On arrival, they saw the Biafra flag already hoisted and left.”
According to Mr. Ebuka, ” the same day, Friday the IPOB people went to Imufu Secondary School and started harassing and insulting some teachers in the school for refusing to hoist the Biafran flag in their school. They allegedly raided the teachers and school.”
We should recall that on September 25, 2021 the separatist group directed its members to bring down all Nigerian flags mounted anywhere throughout the South East, with effect immediate effect.
This disclosure is contained in a statement issued by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, and made available to the press in Awka, Anambra State on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the directive was massively complied with and since then no institution both private and public has Nigerian flag hoisted in their premises.
