Real Madrid’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, claims an “invented” penalty was the cause of their LaLiga match draw with Girona on Sunday that ended in a score of 1-1.
Vinicius Junior gave Madrid the lead in the 70th minute, and 10 minutes later, the visitors were given a penalty.
The ball was determined to have been handled inside the box by Marco Asensio.
Rodrygo’s goal was disallowed for a foul on goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, while Cristhian Stuani successfully converted the penalty.
Madrid now only leads Barcelona by one point at the top of the standings after the draw.
“The first situation is quite clear. [Asensio] didn’t touch the ball with his hand. I spoke to him. He touched it with his chest.
“His left hand was in a strange position, and if he touched the ball with his hand there could be a doubt. But he didn’t. They invented it,” Ancelotti said.
The draw comes after Madrid’s first defeat of the season in midweek when they lost 3-2 away at RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
