The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), headed by Abdullahi Adamu, has been asked to resign by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja due to irregularities in the selection of the party’s national officers and candidates.
In a fresh lawsuit, the PDP demanded that all candidates chosen by the APC for the general elections of 2023 be disqualified because they were allegedly chosen in flagrant violation of both the Electoral Act of 2022 and the 1999 Constitution.
On September 30, 2022, the Federal High Court issued a decision that declared all of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s actions and activities as the Chairman of the APC’s Extraordinary Convention Committee to be illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional. This judgement served as the foundation for the lawsuit brought by Mr. Ayo Kamaldeen Ajibade, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on behalf of the PDP.
The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho has now assigned the new suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1864/2022 to Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo for determination.
It has been reported that Justice Ekwo has in turn, fixed November 22 for mention of the suit with an order that all the 53 persons listed by PDP in the suit as defendants be served with hearing notices in their respective locations.
The Court process sighted on Wednesday by our correspondent showed that the Presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his running mate, Kashim Shetima, all Governorship candidates and their deputies are listed in the request for disqualification from the 2023 election on the grounds that their nominations are in breach of the Constitution and Electoral laws.
Also listed in the request for disqualification from the 2023 general elections are the Senatorial and House of Representatives candidates of the party for the same reasons.
