The Kwara State Fire Service quickly responded after a cooking gas vehicle caught fire at a petrol station in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, and saved two people who were critically hurt.
According to the State Fire Service, the incident took place at the Grace Gas Plant Station, Ita-Elepa Junction, Off Asa-Dam Road in the state’s Ilorin West Local Government Area.
According to a witness, the fire started in a defective gas delivery truck that was parked at the gas station and quickly spread to the next bungalow structure, where it burned down.
According to the eyewitness, two males suffered major burns in the raging inferno.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the state Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, who confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday night, said that the men of the fire service’ quick intervention saved the gas plant from exploding.
Adekunle said that the two men injured in the inferno had been taken to the state government health facility for treatment.
The statement read, “Kwara State Fire Service has on November 3, 2022 saved a 30tons of cooking gas confined inside its tank from been exploded.
This happened in a fire outbreak that occurred at Grace Gas Plant Station situated at Ita-Elepa Junction, Off Asa-Dam Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
“An eyewitness of the incident confirmed it to the firemen that the fire erupted from the damaged gas delivery truck parked inside the gas station. The man also added that two men had sustained serious injury from the ravaging inferno.
“Even though the firemen were able to perform assiduously in saving the gas plant from explosion, yet a nearby three-bedroom flat was affected by the inferno.
“However, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, urged every gas station to be more safety conscious in their day to day activities at their various stations.”
