The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has lost some of its ward chairmen.
On Friday, the ward chairmen from Oke Ogun’s Saki West Local Government Area announced their switch from the PDP to Accord.
Prior to the elections in 2023, the ward chairmen declared that they had joined Accord along with thousands of other PDP members.
The former PDP chairmen publicly announced their defection from the PDP to Accord in the presence of Accord’s Hon. Shina Abiola Peller, who is running for senator in Oyo North. They were led by Hon. Abdulsalam Rafiu Arikewusope.
Arikewusope, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, explained that their decision to join Accord was informed by the yearning, aspiration and interest of the majority of Oke-Ogun indigenes.
He added that the people of Oke Ogun which has ten local government areas have unanimously identified with Peller’s liberation mission in the zone.
Chairman of Accord in the state, Prince Felix Kolade Ojo, while welcoming the new members, insisted that the party is on liberation mission in the state.
He added that the party embraced internal democracy in all its dealings.
Peller, in his response, assured the new members that they have made the right decision.
He expressed confidence that the party will be victorious in the 2023 general elections.
