Joe Aribo, a midfielder for the Super Eagles, will now play for Southampton under a new head coach after Ralph Hasenhuttl was fired on Monday.
WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that the Saints sacked their head coach after nearly four years of serving in the Club.
After three seasons at St Mary’s, Hasenhuttl’s tenure there has come to an end after a string of disappointing performances.
In a statement posted to their website, Southampton acknowledged Hasenhuttl’s departure.
“Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl. First Team Assistant Coach Richard Kitzbichler has also today left the club,” reads the statement.
First-team coach, Ruben Selles will now take charge of the team on an interim basis pending the appointment of a substantive manager.
Aribo, who only linked up with Southampton from Rangers last summer scored twice in 14 Premier League games under the Austrian.
Southampton currently occupies 18th position on the table with three wins, three draws and eight defeats from 14 league games.
