Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, Governor of Niger State, has declared Thursday, November 10, 2022, as a state-wide public holiday.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, the public holiday is to allow state citizens to actively participate in the State’s Local Government Elections by going to polling units and casting their ballots.
The SSG also stated that markets and offices would be closed during the election period, and the movement of people and vehicles would be restricted, except for those on essential duties.
According to the SSG, “Government is urging citizens to go out and perform their civic duties on Thursday, 10th November 2022, as this presents yet another avenue to elect representatives and leaders who expectedly will work for our collective aspirations at the Local Government level.”
According to the statement, Governor Sani Bello has directed all security agencies in the state to ensure violence-free elections, emphasizing that the government is committed to safeguarding and ensuring a smooth process.
